Black Car Australian Burnout 5

PINK FLOYD 3" is a Holden captured at an Australian burnout competition.

The car aids as a reference to scale and reveals the large amount of smoke leaving from the rear wheels. The accelerator is held flat to the floor. As the engine rumbles the driver steers and tries to avoid the perimeter fencing as the car jives like an out of control fire hose. Within mere minutes the tyres pop (if not the engine first) and the car makes its way off the skid pad. The pink tinge in the smoke comes from a dye that tyre manufacturers use to add to the show and spectacle of these events.

Some cars run methanol and this, combined with the heat and burning rubber sometimes erupts in flame and fire, as can be seen emerging from the back of the car in this image.

I am consistently impressed by the passion and dedication of this car building and maintenance, as well as the sheer mystery that smoke or fog creates.
