Dry lake racing Australia salt lake land speed record black motorbike at start line
"YEATS" was captured at an annual Speed Week event in South Australia.
It is the remote Australian landscape and the colours of the bike and the rider against the beautiful white of the dry salt lake, which is striking to me. Additionally, however, I believe the dedication, hard work and passion behind each vehicle or bike is amazing – all of them attempting, within their categories, to set land speed records (or just drive really really fast on an empty, dry salt lake).
It was a long yet worthwhile journey to this event; travelling over 1,000 kilometres in my Land Cruiser Troop Carrier and a long off road entrance to the lake instigating some car troubles of my own.
I love the anticipation in this image and can only imagine the rider’s conflicting emotions of fear and excitement!
